Noon is a cool name that's growing on me, but Afternoon? I'm not quite sure if I like it or not. Noontide could be cool as well. In Australia, "arvo" is slang for afternoon, so you could possibly use that if you love the meaning? The only time of day name that I would not condon is Twilight. For the time being, people just have a bad association with the books/movies.
