Llora is a delicate feminine name with multiple possible origins. In Spanish, 'llora' is a form of the verb 'llorar' meaning 'to cry' or 'to weep,' though as a name it's likely disconnected from this meaning. It may instead be a variant of Laura or Lora, with the distinctive Spanish 'll' pronunciation. Alternatively, it could be related to the Catalan place name Lloret. The doubled 'l' creates a distinctive appearance and pronunciation challenge in non-Spanish speaking regions. As a personal name, Llora remains exceptionally rare, appealing to parents seeking uncommon names with a musical quality and Spanish or Mediterranean flair. The name has a gentle, flowing sound with its two syllables and liquid consonants creating a melodious impression.

Unique and unusual as a nickname and a stand-alone name, Loie is a vintage choice worth reviving. It is traditionally used as a short form of Lois and Louise but would work as a nickname for any Lo- starting name, or even names such as Laura, Eloise, and Charlotte.

The best-known bearer of this name was Loie Fuller, a trailblazer in modern dance and stage lighting. She was an American, born in the Chicago suburbs, and christened Mary Louise Fuller. Fuller's original stage name was Louie, but she changed it to Loïe upon moving to Paris. In French, l'ouïe refers to a sense of hearing, and Loïe was a pun on that, also connected to the Medieval French word l'oïe, meaning "understanding."

Loman is one of those rare names that is at once simple and very unusual, with fewer than five baby boys given the name in the US in the most recent year.

But Loman does carry a few less-than-optimal association, one with tragic character Willy Loman in Death of a Salesman and the other with the symbolic meaning of that name, which literally means "low man". You might want to consider Logan or Lorcan.

Loman

Typically spelled as Lonán in Ireland, Lonan is its Manx form, though it could also be considered the anglicized form too. The name comes from the Irish lon meaning "blackbird", paired with a diminutive suffix, making this a charming nature-related choice that could make a nice Logan/Conan alternative.

Borne by a number of early saints, the name is pronounces as LUW-nawn (LUW like the sound in "look"), LOH-nawn (LOH like it "lock") or LUH-nawn (LUH like in "luck"), depending on regional dialect.

Maybe because it sounds like the unappealing leer?
