Nicolette
About Nicolette
Frilly and feminine, Nicolette is the name of an enchanting princess in the medieval French romance, Aucassin et Nicolette, but really got its publicity from the heyday of Desperate Housewives and its star Nicollette Sheridan. It peaked in the US back in 1993, when it ranked at #327.
An elaborate French diminutive of popular Nicole, Nicolette ultimately comes from Nicholas, meaning "people of victory". In French, it would be said as NEE-KAW-LEHT, while in English NIHK-o-leht or NIH-kaw-leht might be heard too.
Used as the name of Chloe Sevigny's character in the TV show Big Love, it has also been borne by actress Nicolette Scorsese, singer Nicolette Larson, and influencer Nicolette Gray.
Cool nickname Nico might modernize and balance out the name, but it's the succinct Colette that's the rising star in the US these days, given to nearly 800 girls in a recent year, compared to Nicolette which was chosen for just shy of 100.
Pronounced nik-oh-LET.
As of October 2026, Nicolette ranked #1729 in US births in 2025 SSA, peaked at #327 in 1993, Nameberry popularity #734.
