A name with a number of variations including the Danish Tyge, the Swedish Tyko, and the Dutch Tygo, which are popular throughout modern Europe. Tycho was also the name of both a 5th century Greek saint and the Danish astronomer, Tycho Brahe. 
 
One of those names with two possible derivations, Tycho may come from the Greek Tychon, meaning "hitting the mark", "succeeding", or "luck, fortune", all of which surround it with a sense of confidence and ambition. However, it can also link back to the Old Norse Tóki, which was used as a diminutive for names containing the element Thor or (Þórr). In this case, it would mean "thunder", and related to the Norse god.
 
It is more likely that the Danish, Dutch, and Swedish use of the name is associated with its Old Norse roots, rather than its Greek ones.
