Evanthe is a pretty Greek name not often heard outside its native culture. With its stylish Ev-begining, Evanthe could make an interesting choice if you're looking for a generic flower name.

Used as the modern Greek form of Eugenia and as an alternative transcription of the Russian Yevgeniya, and the Bulgarian Evgeniya, this name is pronounced differently depending on location and language. Fortun is a masculine name of Latin origin, derived from Fortunatus, meaning 'lucky,' 'fortunate,' or 'blessed.' As a shorter form of the traditional Fortunato or Fortune, it carries connotations of good luck and prosperity. The name has roots in Roman culture, where Fortuna was the goddess of fortune and luck. Fortun has seen limited usage throughout Western Europe, particularly in Spanish-speaking regions and parts of France. Unlike more common derivatives like Fortunato, the concise form Fortun remains quite rare in contemporary use. The name conveys positive expectations for a child's future and suggests an auspicious path in life. Its brevity gives it a modern feel despite its ancient origins.

Like Violet, Lavender and Lilac, Ianthe is a purple flower name. Chosen by the poet Shelley for his daughter, Ianthe has a poetic, romantic, almost ethereal quality. In the ancient myth, she was the daughter of Oceanus, supreme ruler of the sea, and also a Cretan woman so beautiful that when she died the Gods made purple flowers grow around her grave.
 Iantha is also used.
Ianthe was a favorite of the pastoral poets of the seventeenth century and then again in the early nineteenth. She appears in the works of Shelley, Barbara Pym and Georgette Heyer. Writer Richard Brautigan named his daughter Ianthe.

Ianthe

Iolanthe is known primarily through the 1882 Gilbert & Sullivan operetta of that name, in which the title character is a fairy. Iolanthe is a softer version of Yolanda, and is the kind of multi-syllabic classical name once considered too weighty for a modern baby girl, but now within the realm of possibility--this one as a dramatic twist on Violet. The biggest drawback is its variety of legitimate pronunciations in English.

One of those familiar yet rarely used options, Jessamyn was given to less than five girls in the US last year while Jessamine was given to fifteen. In fact, even at its 1981 peak, Jessamyn was only chosen for 32 girls, making this a stand-out choice that doesn't sound out there at all.
