I set out to compile a list of girls' names to compliment my "Geriatric Gentlemen" list. Unlike with boys' names, the more names I added to my (originally titled) "Grandma Names" list the more I realized that the majority of the names were actually usable for contemporary girls between the search for traditional and vintage names and the 100 year rule. Here is a list of women's names that were most popular in decades long past and names that sound old. Very many of these names are becoming popular again if they haven't always been- your Elizabeth, C/Katherine, and Margaret- and many others are "ready for restoration". I originally set out to compile names that were not- and you will find a lot of them below (it's going to be a while before Gertrude and Bernice come back into fashion).
