Grizz

Best reserved for pets, mascots, bear,s or a nickname, Grizz nevertheless made its US debut in 2024 when it was given to six boys. Likely borrowed from the name of a North American bear species, the term grizzly may refer to something that is grizzled, or gray-tipped or to something considered gruesome or fear-inspiring.

Notably borne by the mascot of NBA team, the Memphis Grizzlies, we'd recommend choosing Grizz as a nickname rather than putting it on the birth certificate. Perhaps Grayson, Graham, August (Gus to Grizz), Gauis, Gresham, Griffin, or Gideon might work as full names, or a bear-inspired choice like Orson, Bernard, or Barrett.

Pronounced GRIZ.

As of October 2026, Grizz ranked #11363 for boys in US births in 2024 SSA.
