About Daiva
A succinct and literary choice, Daiva was coined by the Prussian-Lithuanian writer Vydūnas, for his work 1908 work, The Shadows of Probočiai. The exact origins of the name are debated, with some sources suggesting it comes from the Sanskrit daiv to mean "destiny", whereas others link it to Dievs, a masculine name from Baltic mythology meaning "god".
In the latter case, it is also linked to the Sanskrit and Hindi Deva or Daeva, meaning "deity" and can be used as an alternative transcription. Typically pronounced as DYE-vuh in Lithuanian, in Hindi, it may be DAY-vah or DEH-vah.
Pronounced DY-vuh.
As of October 2026, Daiva ranked #15714 for girls in US births in 2023 SSA, peaked at #4453 for girls in 1955.
