Invented Girl Names

One of the top debuts to the US stats in 2025, Jourmani blends the likes of Amani, Journee, and Jaylani into one very contemporary feeling choice. The exact meaning is unknown, but it could be considered a variation of Jermaine, ultimately from the Latin Germanus meaning "brother" (or perhaps "sister" in this feminized form).

Alternatively, you could see it as a smoosh name, mixing Journey with the Arabic and Swahili names, Amani and Imani, to give you the meanings "wished for journey" and "journey of faith". There's also the Arabic Jouri meaning "damask rose", offering the additional possibilities of "wished for damask rose".

Finally, it may be a spin on Joumana or Jumana, an Arabic name meaning "pearl".

With the sharp, bright sounds of Kaia and Alaia, this modern choice might be based on Kailea, an Anglicization of the Hawaiian Kaile'a ("joyful sea") or Kaili'a ("calm sea"). It debuted in the US statistics in 2025.

Naelith made its entry to the US stats in 2025 when it was one of fastest rising debuts of the years, featuring alongside Elanith and Kyomie. Given to 44 girls, Naelith is likely a variation of Naeli or Nayeli, ultimately from Zapotec, meaning "I love you" or "open".

It could additionally be used as a variation (or feminization) of Nael, itself a form of Nathanael ("given by God") or Gwenael ("blessed and generous"). Or perhaps a spin on Nailea, a Spanish form of the Arabic Naila, meaning "attainer".

Also spelled as Coastlynn, this elaboration of word name coast may well catch on in coming years. It could be interpreted as meaning "pretty coast" (from the Spanish linda"); "lake by the coast" (from the Welsh llyn), or even "coastline", if you view -lynn as a play on -line, in the same way Scotlynn might be used over Scotland.

Kaelis was one of the fastest rising debuts in the US in 2025 when it was given to 45 girls, having never been used for more than four in the past.

The exact meaning or origin is unknown but Kaelis could be seen as a variation of Kaeli or Kaylee, 20th-century girl names that might be interpreted as meaning "crown, laurel" or "pure meadow". Alternatively, it may be a feminization of 2020s favorite, Kael, in turn linking it to the Biblical Caleb ("whole heart" or "dog"), the Irish Cáel ("slender") or the Breton Gaël ("Gaelic").

It may well have been pushed up the charts by another rising name: Maelis, a feminization of Mael.

Kaelis could be pronounced as KAY-lis or KAH-ehl-ees.

A new entry for 2025, Zovalee is likely a spin on Novalie, with a touch of Zoe thrown in. While its invented status means there is no precise meaning, it you see it as a smoosh of Zoe, Nova, and Lee, you could interpret as "new life in the meadow". Another possibility is that its a twist on Zofia, giving it the meaning "wise clearing", or perhaps on the Shona name Zuva, meaning "day light".

Zova is also used as the Bosnian, Slovenian, Serbian, and Croatian word for "elderberry", so "elderberry clearing" is another option for the meaning.
