Weird Celebrity Baby Names

Weird Celebrity Baby Names

Just when you thought weird celebrity baby names couldn’t get any weirder, the craziest namers in the universe — that’s right, Grimes and Elon Musk — have welcomed their second child.

Their baby girl is named Exa Dark Sideræl, but they call her Y, as reported in Vanity Fair.

Exa references the term exaFLOPS, the ability for a supercomputer to perform 1 quintillion floating-point operations per second. Historically, Exa has been used as a variation of the biblical name Achsah, meaning “adorned.” It ranked in the US Top 1000 in 1881, 1891, 1894, and 1897. At peak usage, Exa was given to 28 baby girls in 1918.

The name Dark relates to the unknown. “Dark matter is the beautiful mystery of our universe,” Grimes told Vanity Fair.

Sideræl, pronounced “sigh-deer-ee-el,” has ties to Galadriel from Lord of the Rings. But more importantly, it is “a more elven” spelling of sidereal, which she explains is “the true time of the universe, star time, deep space time, not our relative earth time.”

However, Y’s name is fluid. Grimes is open to her daughter one day changing her name and said she might even do so herself at some point. Grimes originally wanted to name her daughter Odysseus Musk. The baby is also nicknamed Sailor Mars, inspired by the Sailor Moon manga series.

Baby Y joins older brother X Æ A-XII, which Grimes pronounces “X A.I. Archangel.”

The Musk children may have the craziest celebrity baby names in recorded history, but many other stars have chosen names that give them a run for their money.
