I have to say, im quite surprised by this list. Obviously Americans and Brits name their dogs very differently!
I would say around half of the female dogs I know are named Poppy. For boy dogs, I know a few Jacks (admittedly all Jack Russells). Oh, and a few Marleys, but some are boys and some are girls.

Some of these names I wouldn’t use for a pet because it seems too human. I also worry because I’ve had a few instances where people said a name I was considering for a baby was a dog name (Molly and Lucy come to mind)! I do love Bear for a dog and since I feel Daisy may not age well I love it for a fur baby too.
By the way, thank you so much for putting the names on the pictures! When on my phone I usually have to click and wait a bit for each page to load just to see the name. Now I can see them and click the ones I’m interested in. Please continue doing this!

How fun. Our dog is Sir Angus Fionn. When we get another one they will either be called Rowan or Roisin

A lot of these are just not very creative. Buddy is the laziest dog name I can think of. It’s almost as bad as Spot or Rex.

Our pup is Heidi. I love the name for a girl, but our last name starts with Ho and I couldn’t name a girl Heidi Ho, but I loved it for our dog.
@cyoung325- Totally agree! The names on the pictures are great. Lately, I’ve been having weird things pop up on my phone that say I’ve won money or whatever when I check Nameberry. I don’t have it with other sites. I don’t like it and always close Nameberry and just check it on my computer later.

This format is fantastic! The pictures are so charming and I absolutely agree that the names on the photos is ideal for those of us with slower connections…
Regarding the names, I love Daisy and Lola for pups.

As someone who is currently working grooming dogs I have a very different view on popular dog my area. I’d say yes Maggie is popular I’ve had 5 in the last two days. Bella also Popular, anything ending in Ella I see a lot of Stella, Bella, Ella all popular. Lucy I see often but not a crazy amount. I see Lacey a lot with white dogs and curly dogs. Sadie I’ve seen relatively often. but I think Maggie and Stella are the most popular, I’ve only seen 1 Molly, 2 Baileys, 0 Sophies or Lolas
I think people overestimate the popularity of Max and Buddy, I’ve only had 1 Max and 2 Buddys. there have been 0 Charlies, 2 Coopers, 0 Rockys, 1 Bear, 0 Tuckers and 1 Duke. My most popular is Bentley but I have to say people will pretty much name their boy dogs anything the other day we had a Yabo and before that Osi, and also Boba. For girl dogs people are more reserved and when they pick something weird its like Kiss or Tinkerbell, not that the boys aren’t subject to this as well because there has also been a dog named Silly. I think that the list of most popular dog names is probably a lot less conclusive than baby names because people have such different ideas about what makes a good pet name and there are a lot more options. people are a lot more willing to name their dog their guilty pleasure names than their child

I’ve noticed this trend in the last decade or so, and I have to wonder if people are naming their dogs baby names because they’re either having dogs instead of kids, or having fewer kids. A lot of people consider their dog to be their kids, my mother included with pups named Spike and Daisy, and I wonder if that’s why they’re naming them more human names?

I am definitely not surprised that Bella is the number one girl dog name! It is actually the name of my dog, a golden retriever. I know it may not be the most original name, but it suits her beautifully and is very simple, just perfect for a dog. Sophie was my second choice, also a lovely name. I am surprised though that Tucker is popular. I did know a dog named Tucker who was a German Shepherd, but I thought that it was an unusual name for a dog. I haven’t met a Tucker since. It did suit him well though.

[…] that Kim and Kanye’s daughter North West has a puppy called Sushi. This goes against the trend of giving dogs similar names to people, but it make me wonder: is there an outside chance Sushi could ever work on a person? If you ignore […]
