Summer Babyberries Set Sail

Summer Babyberries Set Sail

This summer has brought along 11 new birth announcements from our very own Nameberry users — 8 girls and 3 boys — and 24 unique names.

This sunny season saw a perfect balance of feminine vintage revivals like Frances and Imogene as well as cool unisex choices such as Delaney and Charleston.

As per usual, Berries showcased their creativity with quirky nature names like Zinnia and Plum, truly unique gems like Fenna and Bronte, and even a newly crafted honor name — Lynevra.

The name Arthur (a longtime Nameberry favorite) was notably used for two Babyberries this month — once as a first name and once as a middle name. Interestingly, both Berry parents noted the legendary King Arthur being one of the main allures of the name.

Several names were spotted for the first time in a Babyberry birth announcement. These include Charleston, Lynevra, and Bronte for girls, and Meyer for boys.

Girls

Charleston Juliette "Charlie", twin of Meyer Lewis and sister to Harrison Jay and Molly Louisiana

"We liked Charlotte “Charlie” when we were pregnant with Molly but didn’t love how common it’s become. We were listening to Tyler Childers “Charleston Girl” one night and I knew we’d found her name."

Delaney Jade

Fenna Lily

"Friends and family were starting to make slightly rude comments about our indecision - only adding to the stress of the situation. We decided to try using one name for a day and the other the next and see if we could reach an amicable decision. Somehow it worked and we finally agreed on her first name! Such an immense sense of relief."

Frances Plum "Franny", sister to Leni Bloom and Ru Ines

Imogene June "Immy", sister to Phoebe Claire

"I grew up reading the book Imogene’s Antlers and heard the name again on 'The Marvelous Mrs Maisel'. We narrowed our names list down to three and Imogene was what we compromised on and it just feels so right. June is in honor of my husband’s grandmother who died years before he was even born."

Lynevra Faye Emily Christine "Evra", sister to Marilise and Kiralaine

"It took us about 15 hours after she was born to officially decide that the name Lynevra "Evra" suited her best. We combined Lynn (my moms name) with the sound of Ginevra to create her name, and her three middle names also include names with meaning to us."

Thea Elowyn, sister to Nella Oakley

"I wanted their names to match. They both have that vintage-feeling first name, and a nature middle: Elowyn is derived from elm tree".

Zinnia Marielle Bronte, sister to Jago and Verity

"We had a few names on our shortlist going into the hospital: Oonagh, Romy, Astrid, and Zinnia, but Zinnia just fit her so perfectly. Marielle is to honour my sister and my husband’s sister. As for the third “whimsical name”, we looked at more literary or musical references and settled on Bronte for my love of the Brontë sisters but we decided against the umlaut for the sake of simplicity and because accents of any kind just aren’t the norm in the UK."

Boys

Arthur John

"Arthur is a name I’ve loved since I was a teenager. It was the name of my great grandfather, along with King Arthur and Arthur the anteater vibes. My husband really wanted a one syllable middle name. And we went with John, for his grandfather."

Hugo Arthur, brother to Elsie Ida

"I’m Swedish and my husband is French/English so we were struggling to find a name that works in all our languages/countries. Hugo seems to be growing in popularity everywhere in the world so it will hopefully travel well. We love that it’s a very old name, used in France by kings hundreds of years ago and in Scandinavia from 1700 onwards. It’s meaning ‘mind’ and ‘intellect’ is gorgeous too. Arthur means bear in Celtic and we love King Arthur!"

Meyer Lewis, twin of Charleston Juliette "Charlie" and brother to Harrison Jay and Molly Louisiana

"I know without a doubt these are the bookends to our family. So, instead of trying to find a name with significance or family ties I gave myself permission to just choose names I love."

Our warmest congratulations to all of the proud new parents!

If you’d like your child’s name to be featured in our next Babyberry blog post, tell us the name you chose and the story behind it over on our birth announcements forum.
