I agree. Xanthia is okay, and so is Xanthe, but Xanthipe? Not my favorite. And while unusual names are usually my thing, Xanthipe is not.

I like Xanthe and Xanthia, but Xanthipe is too over-the-top unusual for my tastes. The sound of it is too clunky, and evokes the image of a panicked rearing horse in my mind, for some reason (fitting, what with the horse meaning of the name!).

When the teen girl character on the Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt appeared onscreen and her name was said aloud, I thought it sounded ridiculous, which I suppose was the intended effect of the comedy writers. The spelling Xanthippe with the extra p- in there pushes it even more over the edge. Though I suppose if I'd had more exposure to the name and got used to it, it wouldn't sound as bizarre and would be more usable to my ears-- all popular names had to start from somewhere, right?
