I would argue that it is wrong to mispronounce a name. I went to school with a "Giovanna" who insisted on pronouncing it "Gee-oh-vah-na" instead of the more correct "Jo-vah-na" and there's just something entirely inauthentic about it, like she or her parents don't know how to speak the language but they're borrowing the names anyway.

Me too.

I prefer Violet.

Starelli Says:

We used to sing a rhyme in school that went, "Un, deux, trois, quatre, cinq, six, sept, violette bicyclette."

I don't mind the name, but I'd be inclined to pronounce it the French way if I saw it written in my class-- maybe with a mild Parisian accent.

This name is one of my favourites! It looks very fancy and the way it is said is lovely.

TheHumanCanvas Says:

Not very. I would pronounce it like Violet with the emphasis on the -ET, which isn't exactly correct either. I think you can pronounce it however you like. Call it quaintly original :)

gmdx Says:

How wrong is it to use this pronounced the same as Violet?

_NorthStar_ Says:

I love this name. I like the name Violet as well, but this version has so much more appeal, a little thing extra, and it rolls off the tongue so elegantly.

I like it more than Violetta, but less than Violet
