- this week

Gender: Male Origin of Vale: Geographical name

The name Vale is a boy's name of Spanish origin. Vale and is often added to lists like Nature Names for Babies and discussed in our forums with posts like "Who's their sibling?".

From the experts:

Vale is part place name, part nature name -- a poetic term for a type of valley. Today Show coanchor Savannah Guthrie put Vale on the baby name map when she chose it for her daughter, but there's no reason the name can't work equally well for a boy. Vale might also be a short form for Valentine or a spelling variation of the city name Vail.

Hahaha, I think of River and Brook as being boys' names, as well as Vale. Vail looks even more masculine to me.

A valley is a valley. There are no female valleys. It is a place in nature. Vale is more masculine to me, than Vail though.

Can't believe this is ever used for a boy. Vale, valley, savannah, meadow, river, brook/brooke, and more are all nature inspired girl names. This is and sounds very feminine. Prefer the girliest spelling, Vail, though.

Nice name. Not overtly masculine which I like. What middle name would go with this though?
