Interesting to see what people not named Padraig claim how it is pronounced, or "never" pronounced. Odd, that they claim it is always pronounced with a Paw or Pour sound. In parts of Ireland it is pronounced with a Paw sound, but certainly not always. It was always with a PAD sound where I grew up, as in Pad-rig. Most people named Padraig were also nicknamed Paddy, which sounds just as it looks and not PAWDY.

I agree with IvyRose, it is never pronounced Pad-dreek. Some of the pronunciation guides for Irish names make me doubt the reliability of nameberry for other names not familiar to Americans.

Patrick is so much more appealing

IvyRose Says:

The pronunciation does change within Ireland but this names should be pronounced either Paw-drig, Paw-rig or Pour-ig never pad-dreek like it says here. There should also be an accent mark over the first a.
