Dakota is a unisex name, though I know many more girls with the name, and it leads to the nickname Kody.

That's also my complaint. As much as I love Nameberry, every name that's not of English origin is very badly researched, if it's included in the data base at all and often the meanings are completely wrong. Nameberry's strength are the name themes and the forums but for name etymology I've switched to Behind The Name long ago.

Who's the moron who wrote that? Although it's really no surprise as Nameberry doesn't seem to research the names they list on here.

Strange !

This doesn't feel like an actual name

I actually think this could be a cool name, but it has a more masculine feel to me.

Why would this be a female name when it nicknames to Kody? Nameberry seems to categorize nearly every word name as female by default.

Kodiak actually isn't just a bear. The Kodiak bear is named for the island on which it lives. Kodiak island in Alaska. So it could be a place name. And as for the camera, that's Kodak, not Kodiak.
