You're right. "Basia" is a nickname for Barbara or Bronislawa.

My problem is that Basha, like the other names you compare it to, is a nickname, and I tend not to like a nickname as a real given name. I only know of two Bashas and both spell it "Basia," which might seem prettier. The first was a girl I knew in college; her full first name was Bronislawa (she was of Polish extraction). The second is the Polish pop singer Basia, who had some hit songs in the late 80s-early 90s. I'd guess the name was a nickname for her, too.
