Three Syllable Names for Girls

Arii

Arilynn is a modern feminine name that appears to be a creative blend of elements like 'Ari' (meaning 'eagle' in Norse or 'lion' in Hebrew) and the popular '-lynn' suffix. This contemporary combination gives the name a melodic quality with its flowing syllables and soft ending. Though not historically traditional, Arilynn represents the trend of newly created names that emerged in the late 20th and early 21st centuries, offering uniqueness while maintaining familiar sounds. The name remains relatively uncommon, making it distinctive without being completely unfamiliar. Parents might be drawn to Arilynn for its gentle yet strong character and the individuality it provides while still having intuitive pronunciation.

With Arley, Arlo, Remington, and Kensington on the rise, Arlington might also start to appeal. The surname style name could make a patriotic choice for those in the US, evoking Arlington National Cemetery, which is maintained by the military and considered the most hallowed ground in the States. Given to 7 girls and 22 boys in a recent count, it is currently a rare option.

The name itself comes from the Anglo-Saxon period, made up of the element -ton meaning "town" or "settlement", combined with Arling which likely denotes a given name (such as Aelfred or Aelffirth) or refers to someone of noble birth.

Asherah is probably one of the most ancient of mother goddess symbols, recorded in the pantheons of several civilisations from the tenth century BCE. As the mother to innumerable gods and goddesses, she is often depicted as having the capacity to walk on water, which makes Asherah an excellent choice for a baby born under one of the water signs of the zodiac, including names for Scorpio babies, as well as those born under Pisces and Cancer.

Atalie is a feminine name that likely emerged as a variant of Natalie, with the initial 'N' removed, creating a more distinctive sound and appearance. The original Natalie derives from the Latin 'natalis,' meaning 'birthday' or specifically 'birth of the Lord,' due to its traditional association with Christmas. Less commonly, Atalie might connect to the Hebrew name Athalia, meaning 'God is exalted.' This uncommon variation offers a melodic quality with its soft sounds and rhythmic three syllables. The name has an elegant, somewhat exotic feel while remaining approachable and relatively easy to pronounce. Atalie might appeal to parents seeking a name with familiar roots but a more distinctive presentation, offering the wearer uniqueness without complexity.

The capital of Georgia is far from the ocean, but got its name from the Western and Atlantic Railroad which ran through the city. Best known as a hub of industry and transport, and for its roles in the Civil War and Civil Rights Movement, it has never been popular as a baby name despite sounding like one. Its peak popularity was in 1995, the year before Atlanta hosted the Olympic Games.
As parents embrace more diverse place names for babies, beyond the obvious Georgia and Savannah, we may start to see more of Atlanta on the baby name map. Or add an extra letter to make it Atalanta, a bona fide (but even rarer) mythological name.
