Three Syllable Names for Girls

Breona is a modern feminine name with multiple possible origins. It may be a variant of Breanna, which combines the Celtic name Brenna (meaning 'raven-haired' or 'hill') with the -ana suffix. Alternatively, it could be related to the Gaelic name Brónach, meaning 'sad' or 'sorrowful.' The name gained modest usage in the United States beginning in the 1990s as parents sought fresh variations on popular names like Brianna and Briana. Breona has a melodic quality with its flowing vowels and soft consonants. While never reaching mainstream popularity, it offers a distinctive yet accessible option for parents seeking a contemporary name with subtle Celtic influences. The name received increased attention in 2020 due to Breonna Taylor, whose death sparked social justice activism.
