Three Syllable Names for Girls

To some, Eloise will forever be the imperious little girl making mischief at the Plaza Hotel, while the original version Heloise recalls the beautiful and learned wife of the French philosopher Peter Abelard, admired for her fidelity and piety. Along with many other names with the El- beginning and featuring the L sound in any place, Eloise is newly chic. Eloise jumped back onto the popularity list in 2009, possibly thanks in part to the Eloise Hawking character on the popular TV series Lost. Eloise was the name of Jennifer Aniston's character in Love Happens. Denise Richards named one of her daughters Eloise. Eloise nicknames might include Ellie, Lolly, or Lola. Eloisa is an Italian alternative, adding some vintage charm

This spelling is more authentically French, with the diacritic showing the long "ee" sound to be a separate syllable.

Xavierre is a feminine name of Basque and Spanish origin, functioning as the female form of Xavier (or Javier). The name traces back to St. Francis Xavier, a 16th-century Spanish missionary whose surname referred to his birthplace in Navarre. Xavierre combines exotic appeal through its distinctive 'X' beginning with the elegant French-influenced ending. While uncommon worldwide, it has some limited usage in Spanish-speaking regions and among families with Basque heritage. The name conveys sophistication and cultural richness, offering a more elaborate alternative to the simpler feminine form 'Xaviera.' Xavierre's distinctive spelling and pronunciation make it stand out while still connecting to a recognizable naming tradition.

Gwyniveth feels as if it could have stepped out of Arthurian, however, it is in fact a compound name, combining the Welsh element gwyn with Iveth, a French variation of Yvette.
A direct interpretation of the meaning would be "blessed yew tree", but the name could also mean "blessed rebirth" due to the symbolism and qualities of the yew. Long associated with regeneration and new growth, for @ladyofthetower (the Berry who created this name), the meaning "yew" connects it to the biblical second birth experienced by a disciple of Christ. This adds a layer of spiritual value to the name, along with ideas of new beginnings and fresh starts.

The name is said with all short vowels, and feels like it could fit in with Gwyneth, Arleth, Guinevere, and Gwendolyn.

A name with a modern vibe and an international feel, Naeda has a variety of possible origins. On one hand, it might be a variation of the Greek Naida which is associated with water nymphs, however, it could also link to the Persian Nahid or Nahida, borne by an Iranian water and fertility goddess, whose name meant "immaculate". This would also tie it to the planet Venus, known as Nahid in Persian.

Naeda may also be a pet form of a number of names, including the Arabic Zenaida ("life of Zeus"), the French Nadine ("hope"), and the Irish Sinead ("God is Gracious"). Additionally, it might be a form of Nada, an Arabic name meaning "dew" and a South Slavic name meaning "hope".

Then of course there's the possibility that Naeda is a modern creation in English-speaking countries, inspired by Ada, Nadine, Nevaeh, and similar.

Strong, historical, and bold, Roswitha is an Old Germanic name, notably borne by a 10th-century canoness and poet from Saxony, who is seen as one of the first female German writers and one of the very few people to keep a record of the Middle Ages from a woman's perspective.

Also appearing as Hruodsuind, Hrotsuitha, Hrotsvitha, Roswit, and Roswindis, some sources suggest the name is comprised of the elements hruod and swind meaning "fame, glory" and "strong, mighty" respectively. Alternative interpretations are that it means "mighty shout", with "shout" perhaps stemming from the idea of glorifying someone.

Pronounced as raws-VEE-ta, it appears in the name of a German literary prize for women. Used in Austria, Germany, and occasionally France, other Roswithas have included photographer Roswitha Hecke, skier Roswitha Steiner, swimmer Roswitha Krause, actress Roswitha Schreiner, and philospher Roswitha Scholz.

Additionally, it appears in the novel The Devil's Novice by Ellis Peters, the eighth novel in the Cadfael Chronicles.

Rosvita is a Slovene and Romansh form, that may also be more approachable to English speakers.

A mystical and intriguing choice that would feel at home in a fantasy novel or an ancient poem, Willavere may be considered a compound name, blending several different elements together, leading to several different meanings. And, while it may feel like a poetic and mythological choice, it was in fact invented by @"justagirlwholovesnames" over on the Nameberry forums.
The first part, Willa-, is likely taken from the Germanic willos meaning "resolute, will, desire", while the second part, -vere, may be from the Latin verus or the Germanic "war" meaning "truth, true", from the Welsh hwyfar meaning "spirit, phantom, wave", or from the Norman French Vere meaning "alder tree". The Russian Vera ("faith"), the French avère ("uncover, prove"), and the Latin avēre ("long for, to hold") might be other sources.

As such, Willavere may be interpreted as meaning "wilful spirit", "one who desires truth", "want for truth", "holds desire, holds a strong will", and so on.

Willavere may appeal to fans of Guinevere, Lilivere, Vera, Verity, Willadean, and Willa.
