Douglas Adams invented this name for a character (aka Tricia) in Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. It has a nice, trilly sound, and is accessible via its kinship with Gillian/Jillian.

Ysabell is a medieval variant spelling of Isabel, which itself derives from Elizabeth, ultimately coming from Hebrew Elisheva meaning "God is my oath" or "pledged to God." This distinctive spelling with 'Y' and double 'l' evokes a fantasy or historical fiction aesthetic, reminiscent of old French or Anglo-Norman naming conventions. The name appears in literary works, notably in Terry Pratchett's Discworld series as Death's adopted daughter. While uncommon in contemporary usage, Ysabell offers a unique alternative to the popular Isabella family of names, maintaining their melodic quality while adding an air of mystique and antiquity. The unusual spelling gives the familiar name a fresh, distinctive quality while preserving its classical feminine elegance and historical depth.
