'Y' oh Why! (Boys Edition: A.B.C.)

Carbry

Irish

"charioteer"

A name scattered throughout Irish mythology with an intriguing sound, Carbry is one of the rare Irish names for boys virtually unknown in the US. Bry is the obvious, but lovely nickname option.

Carney

Irish

"victory"

This name is a fabulous option for parents looking for a victorious name but who find Victor just a little too obvious. This name can also be spelled Kearney.

Cayo

Latin, from the Roman family name Caius

"rejoice"

Cayo is a rare and rhythmic Spanish name, all but unknown in the English-speaking world, that would make a lively choice.

Ceylon

Place-name

Leans toward the feminine, but could work for boys too.

Chaney

French

"oak tree"

Beautiful meaning for parents fond of nature-themed names that are a little less obvious. Actor Chaney Kley was one famous bearer of this surname-name.

Cheney

Spelling variation of Chaney

"oak tree"

Strong, solid surname name. For many this name will be inextricably linked with former Vice President Dick Cheney - a hinderance or a virtue, depending on your political leanings.

Cheyenne

Sioux

"people of a different language"

This is a great American name that deserves more attention from parents looking for a name that balances a soft sound with a more traditionally masculine cowboy image.

Christy

Scottish and Irish diminutive of Christopher

"bearer of Christ"

Common nicknames for Christopher in Ireland, we think Christy or Christie have a certain cheery charm, especially now that Chris is feeling less ubiquitous.
