Pepa is a feminine diminutive of Josefa or Josephine, ultimately derived from the Hebrew name Joseph meaning 'God will add.' Popular in Spanish and Czech-speaking cultures, Pepa offers a warm, friendly alternative to more formal versions. The name carries a cheerful, approachable quality with its simple two-syllable structure. In Spain and Latin America, Pepa has folkloric associations and often appears in traditional songs and stories. Though not widely used in English-speaking countries, its international appeal has given it occasional usage worldwide. The name's brevity aligns with modern naming preferences for short, distinctive names while still maintaining traditional roots.

Yula is a feminine name with multiple cultural origins. In Slavic countries, it may be a diminutive form of Yulia or Julia, meaning 'youthful' or 'downy-bearded.' In Native American traditions, particularly among the Choctaw, Yula can mean 'spirit who travels.' The name also appears in some African cultures. Yula has a melodic quality with its flowing vowel sounds, making it both distinctive and easy to pronounce across different languages. While not widely common in Western countries, it has seen occasional use throughout the 20th and 21st centuries. The name's simplicity and cross-cultural appeal give it a unique charm while remaining accessible and memorable.

Sounds a bit like a shortening of Rafael or a condensation of Rafaela, but Rafa is a name in its own right. Whether you use it as a full name or a nickname, Rafa's casual coolness could allow it to follow in the footsteps of other tomboy names for girls, like Billie and Scout.
