Boys Names K Through O

A long list of boys names beginning with the letters K through O. I hope it is useful.

Lennox is one of the hottest unisex names of recent years, and this spelling retains the appealing surname vibe and cool -x ending. This form does distance the name slightly from the literary and boxing associations of the original, linking it instead to a tableware manufacturer, a 17th naval ship, and several American places.

While the Lennox spelling is chosen seven times more often than Lenox, the single N option does have a cool, slightly sci-fi-esque feel to it. Given to 170 boys in each recent year, it is trending upwards.

With the woodsy, Shakespearean vibes of the original Lysander, but with the flair and familiarity of Alessandro, Lorenzo, and Orlando too, Lisandro might feel more wearable than the original Greek name. Out of style in Spanish-speaking countries, but on the rise in France, Lisandro also saw a spike in usage in the US in 2023, perhaps thanks to the Argentine professional, Lisandro Martinez who plays for both Manchester United and the Argentina national team. Given to 126 babies - double the number registered in 2021 - Lisandro could catch on, especially with Leandro climbing up the charts.
However, if the Nameberry popularity charts reflect current and future name trends, then it will be the original Lysander that will become a favorite.

The classic strong-yet-friendly nickname name, much used for charming movie characters.

Ozzy has been on the rise in recent years and currently sits in the Top 1000 in the UK and the US. The Ozzie spelling has yet to catch up, but has nevertheless gained more attention thanks to its popular counterpart. In England and Wales, it features at the latter end of the charts, while in the US, it was given to 123 boys (and to 40 girls) in a recent count. Ozzy, but contrast, was chosen for 548 boys.
Derived from the Old English element os meaning "God" or "divine", or from the Irish oss meaning "deer", Ozzie has been used as a short form for oldy-worldy Osmond and Oswald, for popular Oscar, and for the Biblical Ozias.

Leander was once an almost unknown name, however, with the popularity of Leo and the rise of Leandro, it now feels like a perfectly accessible alternative to Leon or Alexander. In Greek legend, Leander was the powerful figure who swam across the Hellespont every night to visit his beloved Hero, a priestess of Venus.
Combining the Latin words Leo and Andros, this name has a cool, animal-related meaning, that lends it strength and bravery. A once familiar name in the US, it fell out of favor back in the 40s, though in the last decade, it has nearly doubled in use with almost 120 babies receiving the name in 2023.

While Leander is in the Norwegian Top 100 and the Nameberry Top 200, elsewhere, the Spanish variant Leandro or the French Leandre tend to be favored.

Once restricted to evangelical Protestants honoring the ecclesiastical reformer and theologian Martin Luther, leader of the Protestant revolution. In more recent times it has been favored by parents wishing to honor civil rights hero Martin Luther King Jr. Luther was a Top 100 name at the turn of the last century, but fell off the list in the early 1990s.

Kallum is a masculine name that represents a modern spelling variation of Callum, which derives from the Latin name 'Columba,' meaning 'dove.' This alternative spelling with 'K' emerged as parents sought distinctive ways to personalize traditional names. The original name Callum has Scottish and Irish Gaelic roots, where it was popularized due to St. Columba, a significant 6th-century figure who spread Christianity in Scotland. Kallum maintains the strong, concise sound of the original while adding a contemporary edge through its spelling. The name has gained modest popularity in English-speaking countries since the 1990s, appealing to parents attracted to Celtic heritage but wanting something slightly distinctive. Its straightforward pronunciation, strong sound, and positive peace associations make it appealing across diverse communities.

For the seriously audacious biblical baby namer who wants to move beyond Elijah and Josiah, this name has considerable old-fangled charm. There are several other men named Obadiah in the Bible, as well as a Saint Obadiah.
More recently, star basketball player Obi Toppin's formal name is Obadiah, after his father. There have been two prominent U.S. senators named Obadiah.

Lysander is a distinctive Greek name that could be thought of as a more creative cousin of Alexander. In ancient history, Lysander was the name of an esteemed Spartan naval commander and his literary cred comes from one of the two star-struck young men in Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream, as well as one of the twin sons (the other being Lorcan) of Luna Lovegood, whom we learn about in the Harry Potter epilogue.
Previously confined to the nurseries of Mayfair and Belgravia, we think Lysander could easily emigrate to the playgrounds of Park Slope.

Kain is a masculine name that represents an alternative spelling of Cain, one of the most ancient names in Judeo-Christian tradition. In biblical accounts, Cain was the first son of Adam and Eve who famously killed his brother Abel. Despite these challenging associations, the name has persisted throughout history and across cultures. The spelling variant Kain offers a slight modernization that some parents prefer. The name derives from Hebrew origins, possibly meaning "acquired" or "possession." Beyond biblical connections, Kain has appeared in various cultural contexts, including literature, gaming, and music, giving it a multifaceted character. While never extremely common, the name has maintained a steady presence, appealing to parents seeking a short, strong-sounding name with historical depth and a touch of complexity.

Morris is as quiet and comfortable as a Morris chair, and has the same vintage feel. Once a Top 100 name in the early 1900s, Morris fell completely off the roster in 1995, probably due to lingering fallout from his identification with Morris the cat's ("the world's most finicky cat") 9 Lives cat food commercials.
A more distingushed namesake is Morris (Mo) Udall, an influential congressman, and, from literature, Morris Townsend in the Henry James novel Washington Square, which was made into a movie titled "The Heiress," with Montgomery Clift playing the part.
The usual nicknames for Morris are Morrie/Maury or Moe; a more distinctive one would be Moss. Morrie Schwartz, subject of the bestseller Tuesdays with Morrie was born Morris.
