Girls Names A Through E

A long list of girls names beginning with the letters A through E. I hope it is useful.

Calpurnia is a name with a massive history. As the third and final wife of Julius Caesar, Calpurnia has been forever depicted in literature (Shakespeare) and film (Cleopatra; Rome) as a modest and sweet woman, utterly devoted to Caesar. She is said to have foretold his death and to have tried (and failed) to have warned him of the treachery of his trusted allies. Following Caesar's assassination, Calpurnia never remarried.
Calpurnia is also familiar to us from Harper Lee's To Kill a Mockingbird as the housekeeper at the Finch household.

There are several better Cal- names that don't simply echo a male form.

Calvina

The Calytrix flower is endemic to much of Australia and is part of the myrtle family. They are commonly known as star flowers, due to their dainty (usually bright white) 5 petalled flowers. The name derives from Greek calyx "cup" + trix "hair".

Cameri is a modern feminine name that appears to be a creative variation, possibly inspired by names like Cameron, Camila, or Kamari. This distinctive name has a melodic quality with its three syllables and flowing sound. As an extremely rare name, it offers uniqueness while maintaining relatively intuitive pronunciation. The name has a contemporary feel and might appeal to parents seeking something uncommon yet not completely unfamiliar in structure. While lacking extensive historical roots, Cameri follows modern naming trends that favor vowel endings for feminine names. The name carries a fresh, airy quality and could be seen as blending multicultural influences. Its rarity means a child named Cameri would likely be the only one in her class or community.

Cameri

Cameria is a feminine name with possible roots in Latin or Italian origins. It may be derived from 'camera' (meaning 'chamber' or 'vault') or could be a creative variation of names like Cameron or Camilla. The name has a melodic, flowing quality with its soft consonants and vowel endings typical of feminine names. Cameria remains relatively uncommon in English-speaking countries, making it a distinctive choice that still feels accessible and pronounceable. Its rarity gives it a certain elegance and uniqueness without seeming too unusual. The name might appeal to parents seeking something feminine and romantic-sounding with classical undertones.

The campion is a pretty woodland plant with pink or red flowers, whose common name derives from Old French champion "champion". The plant is so called because in classical times, the rose campion was fitted in garlands used to crown victors.

As a given name, Campion may be derived directly from the name of the flower, or from the Old English occupational surname Campion, from the same etymological root. A real-life bearer of the name is the American writer and film director Campion Murphy, and a notable fictional namesake is Captain Campion, a rabbit in Richard Adams' novel Watership Down.

Campion is also sometimes used in Catholic communities in honor of St Edmund Campion, an English Catholic Jesuit priest who was martyred in 1581.

Capella, the eleventh brightest star in the sky, carries much mythological and astrological significance. In Roman mythology, Capella represented the goat that suckled Jupiter, whose horn became the Cornucopia or horn of plenty. In Hindu mythology, Capella is called the heart of Brahma, while English legend calls it the shepherd's star.

Australian Aboriginal myth calls Capella the kangaroo, while in Persian mythology it's a metaphor for both great distance and the color light red. Astrologically, Capella symbolizes wealth and military honor. As if that wasn't enough, CapPella (two p's) also has a musical reference to a cappella singing.

Capitola owes its position on the US Top 1000 to the 1859 novel The Hidden Hand, also known as Capitola the Madcap. It was written by E. D. E. N. Southworth — the initials stand for Eliza Dorothy Emma Nevitte — and serialized first in the 1860s, then in 1883, and was published as a book in 1888.

Southworth invented the name for her character Capitola Black (also known as Capitola Le Noir), an orphaned tomboy who falls into adventures everywhere from New York City to Mexico. A sequel to The Hidden Hand called Capitola's Peril was released in 1876.

Capitola

It's usually preceded by the letter 'A'--as in 'a capella'--singing without accompaniment, and probably has never been used as a girl's name, but in this anything-goes naming climate, we're putting it out there as a possibility.

The name evokes images of the picturesque coastal landscapes of southern Italy with its sunny, Mediterranean charm. Capria has a melodious quality with its flowing syllables and soft ending. It remains relatively uncommon, making it an attractive choice for parents seeking a distinctive name with European flair. Caradonna

Male name from Irish mythology makes stylish-sounding choice for girls.

Carbry

Caren is a feminine name that serves as a variant spelling of Karen, which originated as a Danish form of Katherine. Katherine ultimately derives from the Greek name Aikaterine, possibly meaning 'pure.' Caren emerged as an alternative spelling in the mid-20th century, offering a slight distinction from the more common Karen. The name reached its peak popularity in the United States during the 1960s and early 1970s. Caren conveys a sense of clarity and strength while maintaining a soft, feminine quality. In recent years, the name has become less common for newborns, following trends affecting similar names of that era. Despite cultural associations with the name Karen in contemporary times, Caren maintains its separate identity and continues to be appreciated for its simplicity and gentle sound.

Caren

A unisex name in the same vein as Casey, Cassidy, and Kelly, Carey and its alternative spelling Cary were familiar choices for boys in the first half of the 20th-century, and became popular in the 50s and 60s. By the 70s however, things had shifted: Carey was more popular for girls, reaching number #304 at its 1975 peak when it was given to nearly 760 girls.

Usually considered an anglicized form of the Irish surname Ó Ciardha, the name ultimately comes from ciar meaning "black". It is possible however that it may be used as a variant of the Welsh Carew ("fort on the hill!); a twist on the Irish mac Fiachra ("son of Fiachra, son of the crow"); a name from the Byronic root karɨd ("to love); or an anglicized for of the German Gehring ("spear").
Notably borne by actress Carey Mulligan, Carey, like the similar sounding Kerry and Carrie, have fallen out of style in recent years, given to just five girls in 2024 for example.
