What is so rare as a month named June? October – and November and December – are a lot rarer. Brisk and substantial, they're so much more memorable and modern than April or May. October got its name via being the eighth month in the old Roman calendar. Some related, more feminine variations are Octavia and Ottavia.
October was chosen by innovative author/editor Dave Eggers and wife Vendela Vida for their daughter. And Neil Gaiman wrote a story personifying the month in his collection Fragile Things entitled October in the Chair.

October

The menu of usable month names seems to expand every, well, month, with such choices as November, October, and January joining more established names like April, May, June and August. Logical November nicknames include Nova, Novi, or Ember, making this a natural (if adventurous) choice for a baby girl. November is also, obviously, one of the perfect names for November babies.

Made famous by the iconic and macabre character Wednesday Addams, this name has the spooky and Halloween-inspired feel that some parents might be looking for. The character has appeared in various adaptations of The Addams Family over the years, but the 2022 television series starring Jenna Ortega has given the name an unexpected boost in popularity.

Wednesday originates from the Anglo-Saxon times, when it was known as Wōdnesdæg, or Woden's Day -- Woden being the English equivalent to the Norse god Odin -- who is also linked to the Roman god Mercury. Cartoonist Charles Addams who created the character of Wednesday Addams however chose her name based on the popular Monday's Child rhyme, in which "Wednesday's child is full of woe."

A choice that is gloomy, offbeat, quirky, wordy and celestial all at once, Wednesday has been quietly climbing up the charts since the 60s, but has been gaining increasing momentum. Not only has the newest adaptation made it feel more familiar, but actors Rupert Grint and Georgia Groome chose if for their daughter in 2020, making it feel more usable for everyone else.

Given to 75 girls in the US in 2024, it's not quite so popular as the sunny Sunday yet, but it is on the rise.
Vintage nicknames Wendy and Winnie might make it feel more approachable, or, if you love it but find it a bit much as a given name, Gwendolyn Daisy "Wednesday" perhaps?

Wednesday

Deisy is a feminine name that serves as a variant spelling of Daisy, which derives from the flower name and ultimately from the Old English 'dægeseage,' meaning 'day's eye.' This alternative spelling has particularly gained traction in Hispanic communities, offering a phonetic rendering that works well in Spanish-speaking contexts. The name retains the cheerful, fresh associations of the daisy flower—representing innocence, purity, and new beginnings. While less common than the traditional spelling in English-speaking countries, Deisy has seen moderate use, especially in Latin American cultures and among Hispanic Americans. The name balances a youthful, nature-inspired quality with cross-cultural appeal.

Misty is simultaneously an airy and nature inspired choice and a nickname-y gem with a retro feel. First appearing in the US Top 1000 back in the 1960s, it peaked in 1977 when it reached #40. It was out of favor by the 2000s and a recent year saw it given to just 35 girls (compared to the 6315 that received it at its high point).

Bringing to mind misty mornings, hazy days, and low cloud, Misty has the sweet feel of Missy, Mitzi, Maisy, and Mimi, along with the mystery of Raven, Aura, and Willow, and the whimsy of Clover, Meadow, and Sunny — all of which could see it revived in coming years.

If you do enjoy Misty but would prefer a more formal name, Misty could work as a nickname for choices such as Marissa, Melissa, Artemis, Amethyst, and Maritza.

Spaniards use Pax and Paz, Hebrew speakers Shalom, for Greeks it's Irene, so why can't we make the English word Peace a name? Peace Adzo Medie is the author of the novel His Only Wife.

Cedric the Entertainer chose this for his daughter, but most other parents would find it, though optimistic, not exactly substantial.

Passion

This spelling variation of Daisy ranks in the British Top 1000 but was only used for a few dozen baby girls last year in the US. At the end of the 19th century and beginning of the 20th, it made the Top 1000 during the craze for ie-ending names.

Crimson could be a possible competitor for Scarlett's success, though it's lacking that Johansson charm.

Crimson tends to be disproportionately popular in Alabama — the University of Alabama's athletic teams are called Crimson Tide.

Most will see this as a refreshing middle name possibility, but Bristol Palin baby daddy Levi Johnston used it as a first name for his new daughter, Breeze Beretta.

Breeze

An attractive and now underused nature name belonging to a tree whose wood is prized for its dark color and dense texture, which shines when polished. Ebony joined the most popular girl names list in the US in the early 1970s, peaked in 1982 at #132, and dropped back below the Top 1000 in 2006.

The word Ebony ultimately derives from the Ancient Egyptian name for the tree, via Greek and Latin. It is also a name with musical connections, since the black keys on a piano were traditionally made of ebony wood.

The name Ebony has historically been particularly popular in the African-American community, and is the name of a long-running magazine focusing on news, culture and politics in the Black community.

Chance feels like a mainstream pick for boys thanks to Chance the Rapper and several starbabies with the name. It hasn't caught on in the same way for girls, but it makes a strong alternative to the rather slight Lucky.

Cooler than April, May, or June, but also a tad icy. December gets its name from the number ten as the old Roman calendar only had ten months, and as now, December was the last.

Destini is a feminine name representing a modern, creative spelling of Destiny. Derived from the English word 'destiny,' it carries profound meaning related to fate, predetermined events, and one's ultimate purpose in life. This variant spelling emerged during the late 20th century when alternative spellings became increasingly popular. Destini peaked in usage in the early 2000s, riding the wave of virtue names and positive concept names that parents were drawn to. The 'i' ending gives the name a softer, more feminine feel while maintaining its inspirational quality. Parents choosing this name often appreciate its optimistic connotations and the idea of bestowing a sense of purpose and special path on their daughter.

The doe-eyed Fawn is as gentle and soft as the baby deer it represents. And much like that baby deer, it carries with it the potential of new life. Fawn was featured at the bottom of the Top 1000 throughout the '60s and '70s — around the same time that Bambi came into play. But unlike Bambi, Fawn maintains relevance in the 21st century, thanks to its warmth and ties to the natural world. We would love to meet more baby girls named Fawn.

Given to around 20 girls in the US in a recent year, Fawn may be one to watch out for in coming years, especially after influencer Nara Smith called her daughter Fawnie in 2025.
