Halo is a glowing word name that's both cosmic and spiritual, and with its shiny imagery and bright sounds, it was one of the fasted rising names in 2023. 

The word "halo" has been used in English since the 1500s, and is defined as a circle of light, usually around the sun, moon, or other luminous bodies, created when light interacts with ice crystals in the atmosphere. The word derived from the Ancient Greek "hálōs" and means "disk". 

In the sacred sense, it replaced "glory" in the 17th century as the term for divine light, and refers the a circle shown round the head of a holy person, saint, or angel, to symbolise their holiness. 

Halo wasn't used as a name until the 19th century, but it took until the 2000s before it was given to any substantial amount of babies in the US. Sharing sounds with Hazel, Hayes, and Harlowe, and the vibes of Stella, Genesis, and Eden, it makes for a bold choice that won't sound too out of place in a 21st century classroom.

As a diminutive, it's growing in popularity -- along with indie films, indie publishing -- and the reason some parents are choosing names like India and Indigo.  The Indie version seems more feminine, while Indy as in Indiana Jones tends toward the boyish.

Margo and Margot sound exactly the same, so why has the Margot spelling hopped back onto the Top 1000, outpacing Margo in numbers more than two to one? (Over 350 baby girls were named Margot in the most recent year, versus 150 named Margo.)

Credit the Gwyneth Paltrow character Margot in The Royal Tennenbaums and hot Australian star Margot Robbie. And maybe to some parents, the Margot spelling seems more like a complete name.

Cool couple Maya Rudolph and Paul Thomas Anderson named their daughter Pearl Minnie, followed by Jack Osbourne, and several celebs have put it in the middle spot, as in Busy Philipps's Cricket Pearl, Jake Owen's Olive Pearl and Caleb Followill's Dixie Pearl .
After being a Top 25 name in the late nineteenth century, Pearl went into a long slide, but is showing signs of a strong comeback -- it reentered the Top 1000 in 2010.
 In Nathaniel Hawthorne's The Scarlet Letter, Pearl is the illegitimate daughter of Hester Prynne, who gives her the name because she is 'her mother's only treasure.'
 Pearl was also the alter ego name of Janis Joplin, tied to singer Pearl Bailey, and---hmm--the birth name of western writer Zane Gray.

 Despite the mixed message of her mythological past, Persephone has a light and lyrical aura, and pleasant associations with springtime and the harvest; she was also goddess of spring growth. Persephone was seen in the Matrix movies, played by Monica Bellucci, and could make an interesting replacement for the overused Stephanie.
 Persephone's meaning is in dispute: While some sources give it as the worrisome "bringing death," others indicate that's it's associated with dark blue and with speaking. Persephone was called Kore in childhood; in Roman mythology, she is Proserpina.

There's the Pooh, of course, and also Winnie Mandela, former wife of South African President Nelson; Winnie Cooper, the charming girlfriend of the young hero on The Wonder Years--whose given name was Gwendolyn; Winifred "Winnie" Foster, a main character in the childhood classic Tuck Everlasting; and it was also a nickname for Winston Churchill.

I really like these names. I don't only like them though, these are names that I believe will have a huge increase in popularity over the next few years. Some names, such as Nova and Jessa are quite new and unheard, however name such as Gwendolyn and Pearl were quite popular several generations ago and I believe will make a huge comeback in the next few years.
