Asherah is probably one of the most ancient of mother goddess symbols, recorded in the pantheons of several civilisations from the tenth century BCE. As the mother to innumerable gods and goddesses, she is often depicted as having the capacity to walk on water, which makes Asherah an excellent choice for a baby born under one of the water signs of the zodiac, including names for Scorpio babies, as well as those born under Pisces and Cancer.

Cyrene was a mythical nymph and huntress who was beloved by the god Apollo. He founded a city named after her in what is now Libya and made her the queen. Derived from Greek and pronounced with three syllables, it may come from Kyros meaning "authority, supreme power", giving the name gravitas and distinction.

The name also appears in the Bible, borne by Simon of Cyrene, the man who carried Jesus's cross before he was crucified.

With a noble air and a distinctive yet familiar sound, Gawain is drawn from Arthurian legend, in which he is one of King Arthur's loyal knights and his nephew. Also appearing as the hero of the 14th century poem, Sir Gawain and The Green Knight, his name is possibly borrowed from the Welsh Gwalchmai, meaning "May hawk".

While similar names such as Wayne, Owen, and Gwen are familiar choices, Gawain has long been superseded by its Scottish form, Gavin. In fact, since records began in the 1880s, only 85 boys have ever been called Gawain in the US.
