Quinn is an engaging Celtic surname, zippy, concise and strong. While it may now lean feminine in the US, given to girls about 80% of the time, it is still given to a substantial number of boys: 615 in a recent count. 
 
Unrelated to the Latin word for five, Quinn is derived from the Irish surname Ó Cuinn, meaning "descendent of Conn". As such, it may come from the Old Irish cond, meaning "intellect," or cenn, meaning "chief."
Pop culture was an important influence on Quinn's popularity for both genders. Quinn started leaning decidedly toward the feminine thanks to a female cheerleader character on the television show Glee, but for boys, Quinn's popularity was influenced by "The Mighty Quinn," the name of a movie, a band, and a Bob Dylan song.
