About Árún
A rare Icelandic name, which may be interpreted as a contraction of Árnrún, relating it to the eagle, or simply as a combination of the elementsár and rún giving it the meaning "successful secret" or "secret messenger". As such, it may make a perfect choice for a surprise baby girl or as a subtly spiritual choice for a baby. It was approved as an official name in Iceland in 2011 and has been very quietly used.
This shouldn't be confused with the Hindi and Sanskrit Arun, the mythological charioteer of the dawn, or the Irish Aroon (meaning "darling"), though the latter may share a similar root.
Pronounced AH-roon.
