Strong but melodic in sound, Valeriy is used in Russia, Belarus, and the Ukraine as a form of Valerius, a Roman name relating to health and strength. The name may also be transcribed as Valery, though the -iy form may distinguish it from being an alternative spelling for (feminine) Valerie in an English speaking context.
