Tre

Tre is a short, modern name with several possible origins. It may be a shortened form of names containing the 'tre' element, such as Trevor or Tremaine. Alternatively, it could derive from the Italian word 'tre' meaning 'three,' possibly given to a third child or someone born in March (the third month). The name may also function as a nickname for longer names beginning with Tre-. In American naming patterns, Tre emerged as a standalone name primarily in the 1990s and has maintained steady usage since then. Its brevity aligns with the contemporary preference for short, punchy names. The simplicity of Tre gives it versatility across various cultural contexts, while its concise nature makes it distinctive in an era where many parents seek names that are both straightforward and memorable.

Tre is also given to girls.

Pronounced TRAY.

As of October 2026, Tre ranked #2755 in US births in 2025 SSA, peaked at #395 in 1993.
