About Thessaloniki
The name of a city in Macedonia, this is also the modern Greek form of Thessalonike, the ancient Greek princess for whom the city was named. The daughter of King Phillip II, a half-sister of Alexander the Great, and the wife of Cassander, Thessalonike was named to commemorate a battle victory of her father's in the region of Thessaly.
