About Satu

A Finnish word name with the whimsical meaning of "fairy tale, fable, story", Satu has been used in Finland since the beginning of the 20th-century, though its peak was in the 60s and 70s, when more than 14000 babies were given the name. It's name day is celebrated on October 18th, which, since 2008, has also been Fairy Tale Day in Finland.

An equivalent to the (more familiar?) Swedish Saga, Satu has been heard far less often in its native Finland in recent years, while the similar Taru ("legend and myth") is rarer still.

Satu coincides with the Indonesian and Malay word for "one".

Pronounced SAH-too.
