About Iduna

A Latinate form of Iðunn, the Norse goddess of apples, fertility and eternal youth, responsible for guarding the apples from which the gods ate to remain young. Derived from the Norse element Ið, the name is interpreted as meaning "ever young", "love again", or "the rejuvenating one.

Popular in the form of Idun in Sweden and Iðunn in Iceland, this variation may be considered archaic, though it may have gained more interest and exposure via Disney's Frozen. Borne by Elsa and Anna's mother, the former queen of Arendelle, it is also the name of the type of warbler bird and a language spoken in Papua New Guinea.

As a name, it has been occasionally used in Germany and the Netherlands, though it remains rare.

Pronounced i-DOO-na.
