About Ersilia
A rare choice with links to mythology, Ersilia is an Italian variation of Hersilia, the wife of Romulus in Roman legend. While the exact meaning of the name is unknown, one possibility is that it is related to the Greek herse meaning "dew". An alternative idea is that is comes from the Latin herus meaning "master of the house", though again this is purely speculation.
The name has been notably borne by Ersilia Caetani Lovatelli, an art historian and archaeologist, though more recently it was chosen by actress, poet, and film maker Greta Bellamacina for her daughter in 2025.
Pronounced er-SIL-yuh.
As of October 2026, Ersilia ranked #6121 for girls in US births in 1955 SSA, peaked at #2218 for girls in 1908.
