About Emmeram

A historical and intriguing choice, Emmeram has a gentle sound and a hint of mystery. Also appearing as Emmeran, Heimeran, Emmerham, and Emerammus, it might appeal to those who like Emerson or Emerich.

The name of a 7th-century saint, Emmeram of Regensburg was known for his piety and missionary work. In legend however, he supposedly protected a duke's daughter by allowing her to name him as the father of the child she was expecting out wedlock; Emmeram was then set upon, tortured, and killed by the duke's men.

The exact origins of the name are uncertain but the second element is likely to come from the Germanic hramm meaning "raven", while the first part could be heim ("home"), ermen ("whole, universal"), amal ("unceasing, brave, industrious"). As such, meanings might include "home of the raven", "homely raven", "universal raven", "brave raven" or "industrious raven".

Pronounced EM-er-ahm.
