Brienne

There aren't many characters in the notoriously amoral world of Game of Thrones with a spotless record of moral righteousness -- but Brienne of Tarth comes close. She's one of the most accomplished, ferocious fighters in the entire series -- she was one of the few people ever to best The Hound in one and one combat. And yet she always tries to use her power for good.

Though Brienne hasn't yet been adopted as a girl's name in big numbers -- just 29 parents used it in 2016 -- we see it as one of the A Song of Ice and Fire names with the biggest potential potential, up there with Sansa. The Brie beginning is familiar, even fashionable. And many parents will find Brienne of Tarth a great role model for strong girls.

Brienne is also given to boys.

Pronounced bree-EN.

As of October 2026, Brienne ranked #12135 in US births in 2025 SSA, peaked at #1113 in 1979.
