About Aljenljeng

Derived from Paiwan, an Indigenous Taiwanese language, Aljenljeng is notably borne by musician Aljenljeng Tjaluvie, who performs in her native language in order to honor and celebrate Indigenous Taiwanese art and culture. She also performs under the Chinese transcription of her name, Abao, which could mean "remain", "burst, explode", or "precious".

The name may be difficult for non-Paiwan speakers to pronounce as some of the sounds are unfamiliar, but a rough translation would be a-l(y)ern-l(y)erng. (A being like the A sound in cat; L(y) being like the sound in volume; er like the sound in learn; and then n and ng like the 'n' sounds in nun and sing.)

Pronounced ahl-jen-LJENG.
