Aerie

A modern looking choice with an equally modern sound, Aerie could be a creative (or name-y) spelling of Airy, Aire, and Airie, giving it the meaning "spacious, open, expansive, breezy, casual" or of Eyrie, the name given to the nest of a bird of prey, notably eagles. Alternately, it could be a spin on the word Aerial, relating to something from or happening in the air or it might even be seen as a spin on Aries ("ram"), Arielle ("lion of God"), or Ari ("lion").

Aerie was given to 11 girls in the US in a recent year, while Aeri was given to six. The latter is also a Japanese name meaning "second, Asia + eternity + advantage" and a Korean name meaning "love + profit" and would be pronounced AH-EH-REE and AY-RIH respectively.

Pronounced AIR-ee; EER-ee.

As of October 2026, Aerie ranked #8873 for girls in US births in 2025 SSA, peaked at #5144 for girls in 2013.
