Neelam does seem more masculine, perhaps because (with my pronunciation) it sounds similar to Liam, but I like both very much. I think Neela would be clearly feminine, but I also think Neelam on a girl/woman sounds very strong and grounded. Best wishes!

Lovely meaning! So many names from the places and cultures across Eastern Europe, Western Asia, East and Southeast Asia, and Africa have such unique names with mind blowingly beautiful meanings. But it's sad because they're so unfamiliar in the US that most folks will butcher its pronunciation (causing a burden to the wearer of the name) or invite bullying. It's just so sad :(

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think NameBerry has the incorrect meaning. I think Neelam is supposed to mean "water" not "blue sapphire"
