The dean just pronounced my name as Kat-lynn at my law school graduation and I was LIVID but had to keep a smiley face as I walked across the stage. Please don't EVER do that to someone.

Exactly. But now that I've pointed out that her name looks like it should be pronounced kat-lynn a few people have turned kat-lynn into her nickname, and I feel kind of bad about that.

That's the thing about being really into names. It's not a common interest, so if I start talking about names, most people will just look confused or tune me out. Oh, well.

Exactly! I'm glad I'm not the only one who's confused by this. My friend Katlyn says that no other person besides me has ever mentioned it. (Everyone else she knows must not be on nameberry, lol). I like it pronounced 'Kat-Lynn' because it could be a good way to combine Kathleen and Lynn (my mom and grandmother's middle names) but I wouldn't want everyone to pronounce it 'Kate-Lynn' if I was going for 'Kat-Lynn'. My name is Kaitlin, and I've seen so many variations of the spelling but this is the only one that really confuses me. (I'd only use it as middle, by the way, since it's so close to my name)

I also know a Katlyn who pronounces it like all the other variations. This confuses me to no end. Surely Kat and Kate are not pronounced the same, so why Katlyn and Katelyn would be, I just don't know.

I have a friend with this name who pronounces it like Katelyn/Kaitlin/Kaitlyn/Caitlin. When I look at it I would want to pronounce it 'Kat-Lynn' though. Does anyone have any opinions on this, or know how this should be pronounced?
