I named my daughter Cybele after a Sybil relative and hear nothing but compliments! The goddess Cybele was depicted as the mother goddess and protector of women and was depicted as riding a chariot drawn by lions surrounded by music and frivolity. I wanted an empowered feminine name and Cybele was a natural winner.

We have no issues with pronounciation, she introduces herself as Cybele and people easily pick up on how to say it, even her school friends and other young children.

One of my favorite sights in Madrid was the Fountain of Cybele. Absolutely beautiful! Nameberry is 100% accurate that everyone pronounces Cybele as Sibyl/Sybil. I never heard anyone pronouncing it correctly, even the local tour guide.
