I came here to comment on the ridiculousness of a misspelled Cinnamon becoming a name...which might should give parents pause, as others could easily misread your daughter's name as Cinnamon or think you couldn't spell a common spice.

Well I should have written this comment on the page for Cimarron, which does mean that (like Los Angeles still means 'the angels' even though we don't write the accent in English) but as this is just a variant spelling of Cimarron the originaly etymology is the same.

I like this. As well as being a beautiful sounding place name it also means 'wild' or 'untamed' in Spanish, and from that came to mean slaves who managed to escape and set up independent settlements in South America and the Caribbean. The slavery association is not great but it's kind of cool when you think it means people who refused to be slaves. A good namesake for a strong, independent child.
