I think that there is a Carmelita Street/Avenue in the suburbs of Los Angeles -- it sounds very familiar. I'm sure that I've seen it in computerized directions before. Maybe because of this, I always associate the name with very old Spanish speaking families in California (who were living here long before California became a state or was even part of the USA).
