Hartlyn

A literary creation, first appearing in Byron's poem Don Juan (as Haidee or Haidée) and then in The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexander Dumas (as Haydée).

Just as Seamus/Seumus is Irish for James, Hamish is the Scottish form — one that's not often used here, but still redolent of Olde Scotland. If you're ready to go further than Duncan and Malcolm, out to Laird and Ewan territory, this may be worth consideration. It also sounds just like the Yiddish word for homey.
In Scotland, where it became popular in the second half of the nineteenth century, Hamish is a nickname for a Highlander, and it's a high-ranking name in South Australia, where it's currently in the Top 50.
Some people may have become familiar with Hamish via one of the grooms in Four Weddings and a Funeral.

Hamish

English place name derived from the Anglo-Norman personal name Hasten or Haesta, made famous by the battle of 1066.

Hastings

The ancient name Horace sounds fustily fuddy-duddy, and yet, with the resurrection of Homer, and the new interest in old Roman names...who knows.
Its early popularity--it was in the Top 100 at the turn of the last century-- was spurred by admiration for the Roman poet Horace (born Quintas). Influential in American culture were newspaper editor Horace ("Go west, young man") Greeley and educator Horace Mann; Horace Silver is a jazz legend. There's also a Harry Potter character named Horace Slughorn.

Vanderpump Rules star Stassi Schroeder put this place name on the map when she used it for her daughter Hartford Charlie Rose.

Hartford

This name projects a sense of well-being, as in "hale and hearty", while also having a nature-adjacent meaning, referring to someone who lives near a hollow, a nook, or a remote area of land. Rhyming word hail adds a hint of storminess to the name too.

Unusual but accessible, with a clear simple sound, it may appeal to those who enjoy Hayden, Hayes, or Hal. Namesakes include Revolutionary War hero Nathan Hale, along with Margaret Hale and Mr Hale of Elizabeth Gaskell's novel North and South.

Hale

Harvest has been occasionally used as a name since the eighteenth century, originally as evenly unisex, though it tips a bit in the girls' direction in the contemporary US. Given the rise of such popular baby names as Harper and August, plus new word names from Heaven to True, Harvest sounds more possible now than ever.

Harvest

Hemingway readers will recognize this as the name of Papa's first wife (and, eventually, actress Mariel's grandmother). But in Victorian times, Hadley and Hedley were actually more popular for boys.

Hadley

The name can also be spelled as Hilina'i.

Hilinai

The Irish form of the name is Onora. A variant spelling is Honorah.

Honora

Hawthorn

Heiress has been recorded as a baby name since 2004, but the male version, Heir, took longer to catch up. It debuted in 2019 with just five uses but appears to be rising quickly. One factor that will likely help its case: star power. Nick Cannon named one of his twin sons, born in 2021, Zillion Heir (that's right, Zillionaire), drawing attention to this new addition to the class of money-related names. In 2022, it was chosen by parents for 13 baby boys.

Hunter is gaining favor among girls, as is Sutton, and for those in search of something less common, surname-style Hutton might just be the one, as it blends elements of both. Used quietly for boys since the 80s, it started to gain a little bit of traction in the 2010s, and the most recent count saw it given to around 52 boys. In comparison, it made its debut for girls back in 2011, and was given to 9 babies in a recent year. Given its stylish sounds, it this number might rise.

Hutton

Hanan

Harvest has been occasionally used as a name since the eighteenth century, originally as evenly unisex, but in the US data for last year was starting to lean more female, given to 29 girls and 11 boys. Harvest can be seen as pleasantly archaic, rich and ripe, fitting in with popular baby names like Harper and Harry, and is also a fresh take on names like Autumn and August and one of the best names for autumn babies.
