Unique Names that Start With A

Little-known name from the Old Testament.

Anan

Anatole is one of the unique boys' names with an unusual-ish feel but an uncertain provenance, with a meaning related to sunrise and thus to fire. While it's Greek in origin, it is associated more closely with France. Anatole Kuragin is a dashing, roguish prince in Tolstoy's War and Peace.

Fewer than five baby boys were named Anatole in the US last year, making it a good choice if you're looking for a truly uncommon boy's name that has a solid history.

Anatole

Auburn

A handsome alternative to Adrian or Dorian, derived from the Latin word aurum "gold".

Aurian

Loose, lean, and lanky cowboy-sounding names have become a recent trend, but how about the name of a real one--the Singing Cowboy Gene. Autry might be thought of as a masculine spin on the fashionable Audrey or a fresher version of Austin or Auden.
Some other cowboy surnames from the Golden Age of movie and TV westerns: Boone, Boyd, Cody, Corrigan, Gibson, Hart, Holt, Houston, McCoy and Renaldo.

Autry

A nature name, associated with the cooling, healing plant, often used to treat burns, Aloe has a gentle and appealing sound, reminiscent of Shiloh, Arlo, Allie, and Lola. A very quietly used choice in the US, it appeared in the stats for the first time in 2015 and in a more recent year, was given to eleven girls.

Aloe

This pretty compound name uses the Spanish variations of Anna and Louisa to create a light but powerful name. Artist Analuisa Corrigan, who is in a relationship with actor Logan Lerman might have drawn attention to the name, which has seen a small increase in use in the US in recent years. Ana Luisa is also a jewellery brand, which again might have brought the name into the spotlight.

Analuisa

A pretty name with echoes of Ana, Ava and Olivia — and the option of Navy as a middle name — brought to public attention by Olympic sprinter Anavia Battle. Her siblings have equally cool names: Mintoria, Antoine and Montel.

Anavia

An evocative ancient word that's used as a first name in the New Testament, among other places. It's also the name of an eagle-shaped constellation.
That said, contemporary interest in the name Aquila probably stems from its use as the name of Facebook's secretive drone project. If that takes off, and its name doesn't change, Aquila could take a hit, like Siri and Alexa before it.

Aquila
