7 Letter Girl Names

Estella is a pretty Latin name, most notably associated with the character in Dickens's Great Expectations, adopted and raised to reek Miss Haversham's revenge on men. With the popularity of Stella, Ella, Esther, and Esme, however, the elaborate Estella has also been making moves up the US charts in recent years.

With its appealing meaning "star", Estella ranked as high as Number 110 in the 1880s, though it slipped out of style in the 1970s. After nearly 40 years out of charts, it re-appeared in the 2010s, and a recent count saw it place just outside the Top 500, when it was given to more than 600 girls. French form Estelle is also on the rise, given to 462 girls.
Ali Landry used the Portuguese and Spanish spelling Estela for her daughter's name back in 2007, while other forms include Estrella (ehs-TREH-uh), Estel, and Essie.

The Scarlet spelling makes it less a name, less Gone With The Wind and Scarlett Johansson, and more the bright red color that inspired it in the first place.

About 650 baby girls were named Scarlet last year, with nearly ten times as many named Scarlett.

With the still popular Allison ranking at Number 60 in the United States, and variant Alison sitting at Number 343—not to mention Allyson (Number 490 and Alyson (Number 835)—it makes sense that Alisson is still getting some attention from parents today, although it may unfortunately seem more like a spelling error than a legitimate name to some.

Alisson had a significant rise of over 100 places in 2022, with parents possibly influenced by Brazilian footballer Alisson Euler de Freitas Castro, frequently known by just his first name.

Analeia combines three popular elements: classic and international Ana, the pop cultural, Star Wars inspired Leia, and the Biblical Leah. It was one of the fastest rising names in the US in 2024, when it entered the Top 1000 for the first time, and again in 2025, when it climbed 400 places up the charts.

As a Portuguese and Brazilian name, it is an alternative spelling of Analeah — Leia being a Portuguese form of the Biblical classic. In this case it would be pronounced as u-nu-LEE-u (u like the sound in up) and might be interpreted tomea "graceful but weary" or "gracious in grief."

As an English name, it is a smoosh of Ana and Leia, and while the meaning remains the same — Leia having been drawn from Leah — the ending would be pronounced "LAY-uh", just like the Star Wars princess.

Given to 579 babies in a recent count — twice as many as the year prior — you could also consider the less popular Annaleia if you're put off by the first four letters together.

Marlowe is very much in the air, with its lovely -o ending and the modern twist it offers on the likes of Margaret, Margot, Martha, and Marlene. But is it Marlowe, Marlow, or Marlo? Well, for a girl in the US at least, it's probably Marlowe, with this spelling the only one to appear in the Top 1000.

With the intriguing meaning "driftwood", Marlowe was one of the fastest rising names of 2024 in the US, when it was given to more than 475 girls. It also rose slightly for boys, however, 90% of all Marlowes born were assigned female. As for Marlo and Marlowe, they also saw a small increase in used for girls 75% and 55% of the time respectively. It is worth noting however, that Marlo and Marlow rank in the UK Top 1000 for boys, so ne sure to check the stats where you are.
Marlowe is, of course, a popular surname, going back to sixteen century poet and playwright Christopher and also exemplified by iconic Raymond Chandler private eye Philip.
The name first achieved prominence when Margaret Julia Thomas aka That Girl became known by her nickname Marlo. More recently, Jason Schwartzman used the e-ending version for his young daughter, Marlowe Rivers, as did Sienna Miller for her baby girl Marlowe Ottoline.

Cecelia, with this spelling, got some recent attention as the name of Jim and Pam's baby on The Office -- and also the name of actress Jenna Fischer's newborn niece. A spelling variation of Cecilia that has a gently old-fashioned feel and several appealing short forms, including Celia, Celie, and, as on the TV show, Cece.

Three times as many babies are given the Cecilia spelling as get the Cecelia one, though if you plan on calling your daughter Cece or Celia, Cecelia may feel like the more logical spelling.

Phoenix is a New Age name symbolizing rebirth and immortality. It's also a place name, a color name, a mythological name, AND an animal name, combining several of today's hottest trends in one appealing package.

The name Phoenix is associated with an immortal bird from Greek and Egyptian mythology, which having lifted for several centuries would catch fire, then rise from its own ashes. This cycle would endlessly repeat, and therefore, Phoenix is tied to fresh starts, rejuvenation and beginning again after loss. Phoenix is also linked to the US city in Arizona, named as such because the area was abandoned when settlers found it, and it was seen as a new city born from the ruins of another.
Statistically, Phoenix does lean slightly to the boys' side with 1200 boys receiving the name in 2023 compared to 900 girls. Nevertheless, it shares sounds with the familiar Phoebe, Beatrix, and Fiona, as well as Phillip and Felix, and so it doesn't feel out of place on any gender.
A celebrity favorite, Scary Spice Mel B, rugby player Mat Rogers, fashion designer John Richmond, and actress Tammin Sursok all chose Phoenix for her daughters.

The invented Daleyza was the fastest-rising girls' name in the US in 2013, thanks to the adorable young daughter of Larry Hernandez, star of Larrymania. If you've been out of the world of baby names for a while, you may be surprised to learn that Daleyza is now one of the most popular <a href"https://nameberry.com/search/girls-names/d">girl names starting with D.

Daleyza

Has fallen off its Kathie Lee Gifford inspired peak in the 1990s, but since that notably celebrity baby is now a grownup and out of the limelight, Cassidy may once again reclaim its own Irish charm.

Like Ashley before it, Everly has been followed into the US charts by a number of spelling variations, one of which is Everlee. More distinctly feminine perhaps or a little sweeter in style, Everlee ranks in the US Top 500.
Derived from an Old English place name, Everlee means "wild boar in the clearing." With this spelling, however, it could also be seen as a compound name, combining the word "ever" and the name "Lee" to make the meaning "ever meadow" or "eternal clearing."
While less popular than Everleigh or Everly, Everlee is still given to 900 girls each year, and when combined with the other Everly variants, it starts to feel like a Top 20 name.
Love that -ee ending but want something that stands out? Zaylee, Bree, Jubilee, Esmee or Amberlee might appeal.

Holland is one of the coolest geographical names, unadorned and elegant, evocative of fine Rembrandt portraits and fields of pink and yellow tulips. It first entered the US Top 1000 for girls in 2014, but fell out of the Top 1000 for boys a century earlier.
Holland Taylor is the Emmy award-winning actress most recognized for her work on Two and a Half Men; she wrote and appeared in a one-woman play on Broadway.
Holland, like most place names, is theoretically gender-neutral, but it's one of those names that has reversed its gender identity, going from all-male a century ago to nearly equal in 1980 to about 85 percent female today, with five baby girls named Holland for every boy.

Frankie is a vintage nickname name for girls, with a down-to-earth country feel. It's one of the hottest boyish nicknames for girls, in the forefront of that trend.

This renewed interest placed Frankie back in the US Top 1000 for girls in 2015 after a 41-year hiatus. It's still rising in the US for girls, now given to more than twice as many baby girls as boys. In England and Wales, Australia, and New Zealand, it's popular for both sexes but still slightly ahead for boys.

Drew Barrymore, who helped popularize and glamorize boyish names for girls, has a daughter named Frankie. On TV's Better Things, Pamela Adlon's middle daughter is named Frankie (sister to Max and Duke, both girls).

Now the best-selling version of this infinitely varied name, Makayla incorporates the also-popular Kayla. Makayla and Mikayla have now left the original Michaela far behind.

Maybe it's because she shares that winning -elle sound with Isabel and Bella, but Estelle is no longer seen as a muumuu-wearing canasta player of a certain age (think George Costanza's mother on Seinfeld or Joey Tribbiani's talent agent in Friends). This could be in part thanks to the young Royal Couple of Sweden, who chose it for their firstborn daughter, or the single-named British R&B singer. It reentered the US Top 1000 in 2012 after a nearly fifty-year absence.
Latin version Estella, introduced in Great Expectations, also has energy and charm, while Estrella is another stylish member of this star-related club. Ali Landry has a daughter named Estela. Este and Estee are also in the wind.

Used in Puerto Rico, Brazil, and the US, this variation of the Hawaiian Kailani follows the pattern among Portuguese and Spanish speakers of using -y endings over -i endings, as in the case of Ailany or Melany. With its bright, melodic sound and K initial, Kailany has been a fast rising choice of the 2020s and made its debut to the US Top 1000 in 2024, having climbed more than 200 places up the charts.

Meaning "sea and sky" or "heaven and ocean" from the Hawaiian elements, kai and lani, a recent year saw Kailany climb another 315 ranks up the charts when it was given to 511 girls. Kailani by contrast was given to 1215 babies and Kaylani to 1675, but when you view them collectively, they begin to feel like Top 70 choices, ranking alongside Zoey, Claire, and Eden in the same year.

Kailany

Meilani may sound like a Hawaiian name, kind of a mashup of Leilani and Melanie, but it's actually an invention by that style-maven JWoww, AKA Jenni Farley of Jersey Shore, who used it for her daughter. It debuted in the US Top 1000 in 2015.

Makenna can be considered a member of the McKenna, Mackenna, Mckenzie and Mckayla family: surname style names that are popular for girls. It translates to "son of Kenneth", or taking Kenneth's meaning into account, "son born of fire". This particular spelling peeked in 2010 when it reached #201 on the US charts, and while it remains in the Top 500, it has declined in popularity in recent years.

The name can also be considered an Eastern African name, particularly used in Kenya. It comes from the Meru community where it has a cheerful meaning, though it is more often spelled Makena.

Notable bearers include soccer player Makenna Morris and tennis play Makenna Jones.

This variation of Aviana adds a second n, possibly to make the connection to Anna clearer. On the popularity charts, it first entered the US Top 1000 in 2011 and was one of the fastest-rising girls' names of 2016, entering the Top 500 for the first time. Its rising popularity could be attributed to the recent success of similar names Eliana/Elliana/Elianna and Ariana/Arianna. Whereas those two names shorten to Ellie and Ari, Avianna provides the trendy nickname Avi.

While Elliott and Elliot are well-established for boys, parents are now considering both these boy names for girls, too.

Credit the possibility of nickname Ellie, as well as literary associations with writer George Eliot - born Mary Ann Evans.

Elliott is the spelling used by the lead character in the Aubrey Plaza movie My Old Ass.

Though Loretta has long ago lost its Latin flair, fashionable Sarah Jessica Parker's choice of it as the middle name of one of her twin daughters freshens it up a bit. It's one of several such names, like Anita and Rita that we can envision making a comeback.
It's a name that was once strongly associated with the glamorous, long popular movie and then TV star Loretta Young (born Gretchen), as well as country singer Loretta Lynn--who was named after Loretta Young.
