Clell is an uncommon masculine name with American folk roots, possibly originating as a shortened form of 'Cleland' or a variant of 'Cleall,' surnames of Scottish and English origin. This rare name saw modest usage in rural America during the late 19th and early 20th centuries but has since become exceedingly uncommon. Clell has never ranked in the U.S. top 1000 baby names, remaining a distinctive choice throughout recorded naming history. The name's compact, single-syllable structure gives it a sturdy, straightforward quality typical of traditional Americana. With its unusual consonant blend and distinctive sound, Clell might appeal to parents seeking a genuinely rare vintage name with rustic charm and historical American character.

This heritage connects it to the tradition of surname-to-first-name transitions that became popular during the 20th century. While relatively uncommon as a first name, Glover carries a distinguished, professional quality with historical depth. Its most notable bearer is likely actor Danny Glover, which has helped maintain recognition of the name. As a first name, Glover peaked in limited usage during the mid-20th century in the United States but remains rare, giving it a distinctive quality. The name's crisp sound and straightforward pronunciation combine with its occupational roots to create a name with understated strength.

A jazzy and catchy sounding name, Clella has a variety of possible origins. One possibility is that it comes from Cloelia or Clelia, an Ancient Roman name and its Italian variant, meaning "famous" or "reputable". Alternatively, it's a feminine spin on two different surnames: the English Clelland, meaning "clay land", or the Irish McClelland, meaning "descendant of Faolán" or more poetically, "descendent of the wolf".

Other sources suggest it's a diminutive of the classic Claudia, or perhaps a modern invention, inspired by Ella. As such, it might be considered a smoosh of Ella and Clementine, Clara, Cleo, or similar, giving you meanings such as "completely merciful", "clear, bright fairy maiden", and "all glory".
